Elizabeth Rago
Working in Cycles
Elizabeth Rago is a San Francisco based artist who works in a variety of medias including painting, ceramics, weaving, sculpture, drawing and printmaking. Rather than limit herself to one way of working she tends to move from one to the next, working in cycles. She finds that working with this cadence reinforces her passion to create. This empowers her to live a nomadic lifestyle in which she is able to adjust to the assets and constraints of an area.
Rago received her BFA in painting and a BA in French from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Her time at the University enabled her to study all of her vast set of interests rather than forcing her into one avenue of work. As one who focused primarily on painting since the age of 10, this experience added some much needed complexity to her portfolio. During that time Rago worked as a production potter for a local ceramics company who provided products to Magnolia Market featured on the HGTV show, Fixer Upper.
After university, Rago moved to France for two years, however she has now returned back to California. She continues to be inspired by the transient quality of home and the connections and disconnection between people. Elizabeth’s current cycle consists of cinematic, saturated compositions depicting encounters between people. It’s a complete about face from her previous series which showcased the distance between close people.
